Asian Influence in NYFW

Hello all! Welcome back, sorry we took last week off! we have been very busy and flooded with deadlines, but don't worry we are back on track, with this first blog post back discussing New York Fashion Week!

As there is a shift in the NYFW structure, designers found new ways to display their collections! We were truly inspired this year, as designers took a turn with their fall collections and focused themselves on the current concern of anti-Asian hate crimes.

Anti-Asian Hate Crimes:

(a national coalition addressing anti-Asian hate amid the COVID-19 pandemic)

Here are some pages you should follow on instagram, or to get more details! If you have any more that you would like to share with us, please let us know, DM or Contact Us!

Throughout February, there has been a rise in violence against the Asian community.

"The onset of COVID-19 in early march set off a dramatic spike in anti-Asian racism. The stop AAPI Hate Reporting Centre, organised by the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council, has tracked over 1,900 self-reported acts of anti-Asian incidents from March 13 - June, and hundreds more from California and Texas" @antiracismdaily.

• 58% of Asian Americans feel it's more common to experience racism now than it was before COVID-19. • 31% have been subjected to slurs or jokes because of their race or ethnicity • 40% of U.S. adults believe "it has become more common for people to express racist views towards Asians since the pandemic began"@pewresearch

These figures are TOO high and we at jasxyas are here to stand up for this matter, and help address the concerns and educate those about the matter. So please TAKE ACTION. if you know someone who experiences an anti-Asian attack, please report it!

Here are our favourite designers that took a stand for the Asian Community, and how they used their social media platforms and their fall collection to raise awareness about the concern!

Private Policy 2021

Private Policy is a combination of two designers, Hoaran Li and Siying Qu. They embraced their fall collection and caught everyone's attention as they embraced the Chinese culture and its rich history. Their inspiration was set on the Chinese migrants who moved to California during the Gold Rush Era.

This has brought so much awareness for the matter of hate-crimes against Asian-Americas, as well as honouring the Chinese workers' achievements.

"Maybe this is the season we can inspire and encourage people to learn about the culture and history" - Qu.

Philip Lim

Is a designer that used his platform to raise anti-Asian hate crimes!

Below is his instagram video addressing the matter, Check it out!

Because of this, we support him and his collection, so here are our two favourite pieces from his fall collection. A mix of comfort and utility, the transition between office and home life! A 70-s Vibe!

A shift in the paradigm and rise in Asian-American designers is slowly bringing fresh and diverse ideas for New York Fashion Week.

Let us know who your favourite up and rising designer is from NYFW!

Love,

JasxYas
