Yay or Nay - Past Fashion Trends

Hello, lovelies! Happy 1st week of March, we hope you had an amazing day so far.

In today's episode, we'll be discussing past fashion trends that we like or don't like.

1. Bell Bottom/Flared Jeans

'from vintage flares to cropped flares, these pair of jeans have made a comeback to amp up a basic outfit creating a staple in your 2021 closet.'

Jas: Yay! I've been trying to find pieces that elevate my wardrobe and having a good pair of flared jeans or pants are the way to go. I find it extremely comfy and easy to pair, especially because I love to wear crop tops so it gives an illusion of an hourglass figure. I mostly shop for jeans at fashion nova, asos design, and zara.

Yas: Oh wow, I literally have a collection of these trousers, they fit my body type so well! they make me look taller than I am and It definitely accentuates my ass. 10000% you need these in your closet. These are also the perfect item to have in your closet because you can always dress it up or dress it down, it's honestly ideal.

2. Platform Heels

'fun, flirty, and firm, platform heels are a perfect mix of comfort and style to give you that extra height, elongating the legs while staying on your feet throughout the night!'

Jas: Nay. Sadly I'm not a fan of platform heels, although i love the idea and practicality of it. I think it makes my feet look extremely chunky and i only ever reach for one pair of heels which are the complete opposite style (short and strappy). I love the look of it on other people especially if it's the same colour as the whole outfit.

Yas: I have to agree with jas on this, I am not a fan of platform heels. I think they're a bit uncomfortable to wear and they just aren't my type of 'aesthetic' or 'look' I go for.

3. Shoulder Pads

'a fashion trend seen from the 1930's up until now, creating an illusion of a more masculine figure with broader shoulders - with the rise of the 'Me Too Movement' and other female empowerment movements, clothing with shoulder pads became extremely popular.'

Jas: Nay. I admire anyone that can pull off shoulder pads because I simply can't! I naturally have broad shoulders and when I try on clothing with shoulder pads, it accentuates it even more. So many designers have incorporated shoulder pad items in their collections to support female empowerment movements which is extremely vital and which I respect immensely.

Yas: Okuuur, tbh with you guys. I personally love the look of these tops, but when I wear them it just looks horrible, my arms look like 10x the size they need to be. I just feel very insecure with my arms when I have these types of top on. BUT I do love the look of them and definitely understand why it's a trend.

4. Plaid

'a trend made famous by Burberry and still in trend today, there are now so many variations of plaid patterns seen on clothing and accessories.'

Jas: Yay! I do love incorporating patterned items in my closet and I am trying to do it more just to add a bit of variation in my everyday style. I had a good analysis of my closet recently and found that almost all of my items I reach for are either white or black and so why not invest in pieces with both colors through patterns - and plaid hits the sweet spot.

Yas: Eh. that's all I have to say. I love the Burberry pattern and I adore argyle patterns, but idk it's just not me and I don't think I personally pull them off. I also think they just give off such a messy look, and it reminds me of pyjamas sometimes. so yeah, definitely a. nah for me.

5. Velour Tracksuits

'according to SSENSE, It is believed that Sasha Velour, of RuPaul’s Drag Race fame, chose her name because “the imitation of velvet” is an apt metaphor for drag. Velour is, simply put, velvet-to-go.' A trend made famous by Juicy Couture and now many athletic brands such as FILA, Nike, and Puma carries the velour torch for seasons to come.

Jas: YAAAAY! by far my favorite trend throughout this episode! I never owned a pair of velour tracksuits but I love how put-together it looks, a perfect mix of athleisure, comfort, and sassss. Y2K is one of my favorite eras and when fashion really boomed. Kim K will forever be my style icon.

Yas: YAAAAAS QUEEN. yes. I absolutely love clothes that have to purpose -- comfort and trendy!! These velour tracksuits are adorable and I own 2 sets of juicy tracksuits. They're so cute, if you don't own one. This is a sign to go buy one.

Let us know what you think about these trends and if you would wear it!

Lots of love,

JasxYas
